Cage size

Post by Robbie » Fri Jul 15, 2011 3:22 pm

Hi all
My new cage should arrive any day soon and I was wondering how many birds i could keep. It measures H95xW75xD45.
is it only big enough for a single pair of say Gouldian's, or could I also keep a second pair of a different species?
These will be my first ever bird companions so want to get it right.
I also plan on building an outside aviary at some point.

Personally I would just stick with one pair in a cage that size.Less stress ...and if you do put in another incompatible pair you would have to find another cage or face a lot of problems.

I am not a pro, but I would do 2 pairs in a 6 feet x 4 feet cage. Just my opinion. Just add another nice, calm pair.
What else are you thinking about getting?

Well, I am not sure if I understand the dimensions, but I have a six foot by three and four foot flight and I have six pairs. They are small like OCW, RCCB, and Then some Society's. In the other flight I have red ear waxbills, gold breast, fire finch, rhpf, lavender and spice. So, there are twelve in each sixfoot flight. They all are getting along great.

The cage mentioned is around 37 inches high 30 inches wide and 22 inches deep
I still say one pair.

I guess I was not on the metric system. :)
I agree with a pair if that's the case.

Many thanks all. I forgot to say that the dimensions are in CM.
I am still undecided as to my first pair of birds but the short list is as follows:
1. Owl finch
2. Java finch
3. Gouldian finch
4. Fire tail Finch
