Ok, so my daddy's a carpenter and lucky for me I only have to pay for materials . I'm putting him to work tomorrow on my new flight! I found this picture and the plans to go with it, and I LOVE it!



I'm going to have him build a stand for it as well. What do you guys think?

Still undecided. All I have right now is a pair of zebs that are expecting hatchlings any day now. I can't decide if I want to keep them where they are and get goulds for the flight, or move them once the chicks are weaned and put a pair or two of different species in the flight with them. What do y'all suggest?

I keep telling myself that my zebs will be angry with me if I don't give them this nice, new home... but then i start thinking about how beautiful goulds would look in this flight. I am under the impression that zebras and gouldians should not be housed together. Is this correct? Im still a newbie. These zebras are my first birds

I think Zebs would probably be too pushy to be housed with Gouldians.

Ask Dad if he can plan it with a central divider...it makes life Sooooooo much easier.Birds in one half while you clean the other..

That's a great idea. I could also separate birds easily and quickly if I needed to for some reason (males from females, aggressive birds, etc.). Thanks for the suggestion! Ill post pictures soon! Im so excited I can hardly stand it

I've been looking through pictures and see several docile species being housed with pushy species (i.e. zebras with cordon bleus). Is this just a hit or miss type of thing as far as compatibility? My fiance really loves cordon bleus but I didn't think they could be housed with zebras. Should I give it a try and just separate them if problems arise?

Should I post this somewhere else other than housing?

As far as birds, yep, zebras are a very particular bunch. some birds do well housed with other species, some can't be housed even with other pairs of zebs!
Don't be fooled by the pics on the forum, tho - remember that many of those are aviary photots, where the birds have plenty of room to avoid each other when they want. that makes keeping zebs with other birds much easier.
If you haven't tried it already, use the finch information link at the top left, and find the cage calculator in the housing section. that will give you an estimate of how many birds you can keep in your cage.

Personally, if you really want other species, I would leave the zebs in their cage, and dedicate the new flight to the new species. you can always have dad build another flight for the zebs!
