Now that my female is settling in, one of the places that they like to go is on top of their nest. The only problem is that while they sit up there, they often poo, and it either drips down the side or stays on top.

My question is, what can I do to clean the nest while not making them agitated or feeling insecure. I say this for two reasons. First, it is the one area of the cage that I would like them to feel that is theirs and theirs alone for nobody to tinker with. They know they are secure either on top of, or inside of their nest. The second reason that I don't want to disturb the nest.....poo and all, is because the male seems to be working so hard to put it in order...either for their own comfort, or .......to prepare it for the clutch he and she are contemplating. Hence, I don't want to disturb much. On the other hand, it is neither sanitary, or look very nice to just leave the poo there.

So, what do you all think???

I wouldn't clean the inside of their nest, however, you could move the nest up more so that they cannot sit on the top... just put a perch close to the nests entrance

Hi Emily.....no not inside..........the sides. I was thinking about moving it up more but it clamps on and I don't really have the bar configuration to do so.....well, I will have to look at it again...

higher up would cure the problem ,but if the cage bars dont allow you to do this how about making some sort of platform above the nest that you could take off and clean then just put it back in place!
