Reducing sound

I currently share a house with 3 other people. Everyone has their own room, and luckily the house is big enough that the birds have their own room. [safe from the cat ] Unfortunately not all of the roommates enjoy the songs of birds echoing through the house at dawn everyday...and when the lease is up for this place, I imagine we won't have the luxury of an extra room for the birds.

My idea was to maybe build some kind of plexiglass aviary that would not only cut down on the sound, but also make the cage/aviary cat-proof for future moving.

I've seen some of you hollow out armoires and dressers, but I would hate to cut back on the natural light they receive. I know there are bulbs, but are they really ok?

Any ideas or tips would be appreciated!

I would go for natural light as a first choice and then, if you must, use full spectrum lights. I had to order mine online, as they hardware stores only had plant lights. The pet stores charge too much for their lights. I would want to be around house mates who love the birds, but I get we can't always get what we want. LOL. I love being awakened by the singing of the birds! I don't think I would make an all plexiglass aviary, as they need air circulation, but I have seen pics of some with venting on top and bottom. So, that really would not decrease the noise. The people who don't like the sound could get a "white noise" machine or a sound machine, like the ones that you can hear the ocean or rain or something. If you put a fan on in a room, it's the same concept and it "masks" the other sounds. Good Luck.
