Today is the big day!

Post by Jossi » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:40 am

To day Im starting my cage building project. I nevet thought I was going to be afraid of my new jigsaw, but the sound of that thing!!!

Im doing a flight cage 6 ft long, 2,5 ft wide and 6,5 ft tall on the highest point. I cant wait for it to be finished!

I made a sketch in google sketchup... not quite accurate in messurment, but it will give you some idea.

On the front there will be some storage att the bottom for food, medication, vitamins etc.
There will be two smaller doors on the front at the bottom and one bigger door in the middle (I might split the bigger door in two halvs, to prevent escaping finches...).

I will build in lighting at the top and pait it all in white or light grey.

I would love to hear what you guys think... and everything can be changed untill its finished... I will post photos along the way.

Jossi....the only problem I see with your nice aviary is that it is way too small.....you need to double the size....like wall to wall.

Seriously...it looks like a great setup. It will be fun to see how you progress with it. Good luck and watch those fingers!

Looks awesome! those will be some happy birds when you're finished!

I would suggest that dividing the big door in half is a good idea. Not only to reduce the chance of escapes, but also you could put a divider in the cage that way in case you ever need to catch somebody. the smaller the space, the easier the catch!

Can't wait to see photos! :D
