Canary with finches
Can I put a male canary with my mixed colony of finches?

Re: Canary with finches
It depends on the canary. Some are OK some not. How big is your cage? At the moment I have an American singer in an outdoor screened aviary with four blue faced parrot finches that do well. The same canary chased and tormented a pair of javas but ignores the parrot finches. You will know right away if it will work or not. The more room the better.

Re: Canary with finches
I have 3 canaries with my other finches and they are really kind, never agressive and great teacher birds, always curious and smart and triggers the other birds in to eating new things and doing new stuff. They can sometimes be a bit sensetive with their own space, but they just shout a bit at the bird getting to close, never, ever bites or peck at them. I can say that my canaries are by far the kindest of my birds.
It usually takes about 1 hour to teach my goulds to eat new stuff, since the canaries are eating it the minut I put it in... and then it must be safe
I wouldnt be worried, you just have to try it... but as with everything some birds have a bit of an attitude
Maby the canary would be a bit annoyed by zebs... beeing very active and fidgety... but I would think that its more likely that the zebs would be aggressive rather than the canary.

Re: Canary with finches
I have a male Gloster canary in a single flight with various finches - no problem.
I have a female Gloster canary in a different single flight with other various finches - no problem.
I have two canaries in a smaller cage with 4 owl finches - no problem.
