Courious what people here are keeping their room temperture at with goulds while breeding and when not breeding?

I keep my bird room, breeding and not breeding always above 60 degress F and I have goulds in there too.

During the winter months I don't let me bird room go below 60 at night and the daytime temp is between 65-68 for my breeding and non-breeding birds. They do fine at these temps.

My aviaries get down into the mid 50's before I turn on any heat and get down into the low 60's at this time of year. I have aussie and asian finches

chrischris, your questions raises mine:

What about goulds outdoors? It can get a bit below freezing where I live. I just build an outdoor aviary. My birds have been outdoors since the spring so they have acclimated. Should I start figuring out how to heat their new digs?

allgirlsmom - I see you are in So. California, so hope you have been safe. Another forum I am on has a number of members in California, and though none of them have been directly in danger, they are having to deal with issues of air quality. I don't remember just where in California that is. He keeps his Gouldians in outside aviaries all year round, and says temps in his area range from low 20's winter nights to highs of 115, so you might want to contact him to see what special measures he takes for cold weather. I would imagine he has an indoor or protected area that the birds have access to. He has quite a lot of information on how he cares for his Lady Gouldians, so it is a very interesting website.

We have been fortunate in regard to the fires. We could see the flames and smoke in the hills around us, but the wind blew the smoke away from us. We had 1-2 days of ashes and smoke but not really bad. The finches seemed fine through it all, however at the start when the Santa Ana winds had started, they were so curious about it and seemed a little bewildered.
