I'm wondering if anyone else has connected two store bought cages to make a larger cage? Today I connected my larger cage, 37 x 27 x 68, with my smaller cage 30 x 18 x 18. I didn't clip any of the cage wires because I'm not sure if it's going to work out and don't want to damage my cages permanently, so there is only a small door that leads between them. The smaller cage hangs off of the side of the larger cage on the upper portion. It looks a little odd and I currently have no way of changing the paper in the smaller cage but am just trying it out. A few snips and it will come apart. I'm pressed for room but was unhappy as I had more birds than the bird calculator suggested.

Has anyone tried this successfully (or unsuccessfully)?

I find the calculater to be off somewhat, because look at a little zebra finch, then a big java finch, how can they be used in the same way? A java is like 4 zebras. Anyways, I have a larger cage, and I snipped about 6 or 7 bars across the top, and I took the bas off the smaller on and put it on top, they went up and down all day, I had to cut the paper so it fit the right way, but they seemed to like it. Did you happed to buy the cage rack? I would spereate the birds into pairs or trios.

Oh if I only had all the room you have WOW!! I wouldn't hesitate to put 30inch cages together what fun that would be.

Lol, Dante, if you ever keep more than one pair of zebs, believe me they need all that space! they're so active and territorial!

the cage calculator is pretty accurate, but more docile birds can be housed more per cage, so your cb's might not be as crowded as you think. there are lots of great articles about building your own cage, and certainly you can attach two or more cages to create extra space.

I think I'll stick to one pair for now, that's all I can handle! I learn new things about them every day. But I am getting silverbills soon. Thinking about a society, and getting javas in a couple months. So by new years I'll probaly have 10 birds, if I can get some babies from my zebras.

Hello...here is a quick picture I snapped this morning of what I made up last night. This morning the birds are all hopping in and out and exploring, precious things. If it works out alright I may grab another small cage and put it on the other side. then it would sort of look like a pop up trailer.

LOL... love the idea of the pop up trailer! (being an avid camper myself I'm partial to it!) I sure wish I had the room some of the people on this forum have for big cages! I would definitely get more birds if I did! Maybe some day when the kids all move out! LOL

Ooohhh.....your RCCB's are so pretty. And I really like your cage decorating. It looks lovely inside and out. I like how the reddish leaves bring out the RCCB's cheek color.

so far so good. the birds seem to think of it as another room, and I have two other nests in there and a ton of silk flowers (although they're spring as that's what's on sale, lol). so i think i may get another one and put it on the other side if it works out. it acts as a refuge too if they're getting on each other's nerves, but I still only have the water and food in the central area so no extra cages to feed water everyday. I'm still working on how i'm going to change the paper. I have it tied with clothesline from the arch of the top but I have lots of zipties on there too.
