Dowel perch solution

Post by StevePax » Wed Nov 30, 2011 11:47 pm

We all know the straight regular dowel perches aren't really great for our birds' feet. But, it's kinda convenient to have a perch that goes all the way across the cage sometimes, and my double flight cage came with 4 of them, so I hate to just toss them. So I got out my dremel tool and a 60 grit sandpaper attachment and went at it. Here's the result.

I did that very same thing with one of my plain perches; it was fun to kind of carve it out.

Hi, I am new to finches and my aviary will have many branches and natural things for the finches to perch on, but in the sleeping area I would like to use a dowel. What is the best diameter for finches?

It is best to use maybe two or three different sized ones, as all finches vary in size, they lke to choose which size or texture suites them best.

Steve can you share your instructions on how you did it. I love it. Would love it if the husband can make me a few.
