Switcheroo

Post by jackie » Thu Dec 01, 2011 7:20 pm

Quick question for you experts :)

Is it bad to switch the birds out to different cages? I have 2 cutthroats, 3 Zebras (one of which is a baby), and 2 Societies. Its clear to me now that when all of them were in the same cage that the Societies ended up fostering the Zebra baby. I then moved the mom and dad Zebras to their own cage, they have laid, but it seems that they know nothing about what to do next.

Here's my question --- should I move the 2 cutthroats (who are somewhat aggressive at times) to the smaller cage and move back the 2 Zebras in the hopes that she will lay again and the Societies will foster?

How many eggs did your female lay? If it is one or two she may lay more and they often don't sit until she is done. I would not keep moving them around if you want them to raise a clutch on their own.

Could the cutthroats have been bothersome the last time they tried and they gave up? Do they bother the societies and the baby zebra?

The cutthroats could totally have been bothersome.....as I've noticed alot of aggressive behaviour from them towards the Societies.

I did end up moving them today.....and moved the nest of the Zebras in with the Societies.....the Zebras actually seem VERY happy to have been moved.

I might try again putting a nest in for the Cutthroats and see if she lays again.....
