While in the local hardware store today I happened to see a little mat made of some woven plant fiber, made for bunny cages. The mat is made of 3 panels about 6x6 inches each, joined together with twine at the seams so that the mat can lie flat or be folded into shapes. I had been wanting to give my bird's nesting area more privacy, but didn't want to use up flight space with more plants. I folded this mat around the nest, tied it in a couple points to the top of the cage, and voila, their home now has a separate bedroom.
It should also be possible to fold a mat like this into a triangle and hang it as a kind of nest.
Anyway, maybe this is something familiar, but in case it isn't wanted to share.
flexible partitions
Re: flexible partitions
That sounds interesting.....would you be able to post a photo so we can see your invention?

Re: flexible partitions
Sorry for the delayed reply, but here are some pictures of how I used a bunny mat to give my GS pair some privacy.

Here's another photo of the partition, also an old one of the flight without it. The bunny mat is hung from the top bars using plastic coated electrical wire at 3 points. The birds can slide the mat around if they want. I cut some holes in the mat so they can look out. GSs need to be able to see what's going on around them, to feel safe. This makes sense since in nature they build open nests in trees with just some leaves for privacy.
The birds took to it right away, and it takes up far less volume in the cage than another plant. The bunny mat is made of loosely woven grass and is very flimsy; I don't think that that is danger of finch feet getting caught in it.

Re: flexible partitions
Wow that looks interesting but I don't think I have ever seen this anywhere around this area of Central Oregon. It would work great using each partition between nest for privacy......I better start looking at local feed stores.
Thanks

Re: flexible partitions
kathmcm,
I really like your forked dish holder
Natural looking and keeps the dishes away from the side of the cages.... less mess
