Is it an earth floor?...No problems with rodents etc?

Yes it is an Earth floor. I put roofing iron down about 2 feet into the ground around the perimeter to help keep rats out, but we don't really have a rodent issue around here. One year on and no rat has got in.

We wanted to keep the aviary as natural as possible, so keeping an Earth floor was important for as plants can be planted straight in the ground, and grass grows all the year round which all the birds love to feed on. Due to the size of the aviary there is also very little cleaning required, as the birds droppings quickly disappear into the soil and nourish the grass and plants. The birds also get bugs from the soil and plants. It has all worked out nicely.

We now have 2 Turq babies! But they might grow up thinking they are Cockatiels because there is a Male Cockatiel (Leela) who thinks he is their Daddy. He is sitting on them in the nest. Sometimes there is a male and female Turq and a Tiel feeding the babies, very sweet.

I will try and get some shots of this going on without disturbing them too much.

There have been some issues with the above video, so here is a breakdown;

And this is the surrogate Father of the turquoisines, Leela the Cockatiel (He is called Leela because he was sold to us as a female... but turned out to be male.)

The clip below shows 2 of our Turquoisines sunbathing. This is the only way you get to see how pretty their wings and tails are. They are such quiet sweet little birds.

I have seen Leela feeding the babies once when I looked in. Leela also gets fed by Twistee the male turq... its all very strange.

Love, love, LOVE your aviary. I think your aviary would be perfect with another male turquoisine. A yellow one if you can find one. They are really gorgeous birds. candoaviary from our forum had/has two pairs, I believe.

And just a quick tangent, but my neighbors growing up were Kiwi....really lovely people. Would love to visit Aotearoa some day.

I love this really funny arrangement you have with the Turqs and Leela....a real modern family you have going on in your gorgeous Pheasantasiam.

bugaboo5, I know cando. That is where I bought my pair of gouldians from. She has a store over in Panama City Beach that is only a 40 minute drive from where I live. I saw those yellow turquoise she has and they are so pretty. I go to her store every chance I get. She had some pink ones and scarlets chest ones also. I would love to have a big aviary with all those different colors in it. I did not know you could keep quail or pheasant with finchs and cockatiels. I love your videos of your birds

We didn't know either, but we thought as long as we make the aviary big enough they would all have room to get away from each other if there was a problem... but there are no problems anyway, they all get along great.
