hi everyone,
im looking at adopting a parrot to my brood soon and i got to the toys section of the parrot websites and then it dawned on me, what kind of toys should i or can i have for my finches?. at the moment i have branches and perches around the cage but no toys. what kind of things do you have for your finches that your finches seem to really enjoy?

you cant go wrong with a swing for finches
my finches all have swings and they can be seen on them regularly.
Also small sheddable toys are fun for finches. they like to pick at them

parrots like lots of different toys.
my parrotlets have rope toys, shreddable toys (keeps them busy), foraging toys, mirrors, bells beads, ladders, swings etc etc

thanks im going to add a swing to the shopping list, and thats the exact thing though, parrots love to play with pretty much anything and it feels to me as though finches use flying as their fun time. the whole issue with giving finches shreddable things is that they will be stimulated to breed during non-breeding times

I put a swing in for my guys and they avoided it like the plague until I bribed them up to it with millet! They still don't perch on it unless there's millet clipped to it. It might just be the layout of the cage though!

Kiishka, sometimes it's the type of swing, too. if yours is held on by one hook, maybe the swing is too wild for them. or if the perch on it is too big, it might hard to hold on while it's moving. try a different swing, I bet you'll find one they love!

other good toys for finches are bells, mirrors (though some birds attack their reflection as a rival, so watch them closely), plastic rings/loops, 'bouncy' branches. finches definitely like to fly more than play, but they have their moments.

your right Talal. I dont have shreddables...Ive just heard some people use them.

Some people also use bells. I tried those a few yrs ago, and they were all terrified.

In my quarantine cage, I have a little mirror with some beads on a bar attached to it. My female gouldian is in there atm, and she LOVES this. I see her playing with the beads moving them back and forth.

I wouldnt recommed mirrors in with pairs becuase they would see them as another bird, and then the fights start.

My birds all have a little round mirror with a bell hanging from it, they love it! Also, they swings. I use the pedi swings the get their nails trimmed when they use it.

yeah i got them a swing yesterday so i guess we will see what happens. i noticed it was moved today so im thinking one of them was on it. i havent seen it myself yet.

Absolutely agree with you You need just mirror and pedi swings, and no more than one toy, that is enough for your birds

The older gentleman I adopted my male zebra from insisted that the finch loved to play with the mirror.

I haven't been sure, but now I definitely think he's been attacking it.
Better pull it out!

i reccomend getting the mirror out of the cage because it causes un-necassary stress
