Plastic Chicken Wire?

Post by DanteD716 » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:46 pm

I have some forest green plastic wire/garden fencing. I'm not sure of the spacing but would this be finch friendly?

That is a bit to big, in my opinion. The finch info center gives this recommendation "wire spacing should be no smaller than ¼" and no larger than ½" between bars"

I think Home Depot has 1/2 square plastic coated metal mesh. That is what I use on my cages.
WARNING, the wire is SHARP where it is cut.

I used the 1 inch and it worked fine, the societies can't get out and even if they could I doubt they'd want to

1/2 inch gives you flexibility to put a smaller bird in the cage at a later date.

True, but it was meant for spice finches and was a spur of the moment idea since Iwas only using what I had on hand. It will probaly always used for societies or spice finches, as I'm putting my waxbills in the avairy once it gets transformed from a closet.

that spaceing is a little much but i think it should be fine for your societies and seeing as how finches dont chew the wire like parrots you should be fine

sounds ok for what you want to use it for but I would use 1/2 inch for anything else
