I am at my dad's house, and we havea a cherry tree, plum tree, and grape vines in the back. There was an arch that leads out into the garden, my dad took it down and the grae vine wraps.areound the entire garden, so.part of it got cut down because it was attatched to the arch. I cut about 6 decent perches from it, and peeled away some layers of bark, they look really nice, have a smooth texture and they are unique looking. They are sfe for the birds, right? They have been outside attatchdd to that arch for a few months so are no longer alive

It sounds like they would make great perches. If you have a lot of it, maybe your local pet stores would be interested in buying some perches from you? Just a thought. I paid about $10 for a branched perch about 14" long that has a washer/screw at the end so that it attaches to the side of the flight.

I have enough to make 50+ once they start growing again this sprijg/summer I can get some nice ones. Maybe I can sell wome, great idea! They are stronger then the natural perches my uncle has in his flight, I will go cut some.more and post pictures later

The more you sell the more finches you can get for your new aviary!

That is a real good idea!!! I need to buy the hardware to attatch them to the cages. And if I save up I can buy the breeding racka i want!! I jeed to makke myo own site..

Grapevines make wonderful perches. You don't even need to strip the bark off them - the birds enjoy picking at it. I've used grapevines from our farm for years.

Another thing you can do with it is make wreaths. They can be hung from the cage ceiling - the birds love sitting on and in these.

It might be good to start by looking at all the perches you can find at the local stores and online, to see how they are made and what they sell for. If you make some of your own, you might find some early buyers on Finch Forum that could provide testimonials that you could share with the pet stores or with people who have web sites for selling lots of different kinds of bird products.

You'll need a namd and logo for a tag on your perches so that people know they are yours....

I would buy some from you!!! I love using woods and vines. I use to order dragonwood in huge bundles while living in Ft Myers. I also love using orange tree branches.

Isn't there one in April??? And if I can make some.perches (I also like the wreath idea) and get some birds breeding I'd love a table! how much do they cost?? And is there an age limit? Will I be the only 14 year old vendor??

We have an orange tree, it is in a large pot and comes inside for the winter, my dad forgot to water it and he almost died!

You can get a 4-foot table for $25.00 for the day - or an 8-foot table for $45.00. I don't see anything about an age limit.

I forgot it was by a different group. And those aren't bad prices. I just cut three more, one thicker, probaly good for larger birds, like canaries or budgies. One long one with different curves, and one shaped like a U, but it has a third branch extension, that is higher up so it like threee perches in one.

They actually sell grapevine perches...so its safe. Just make sure its cleaned since its been outside.

I would love to have some grape vine perches! But they dont grow over here....
