Iam in the process of converting a large armoire into a new aviary and cant wait to get my 3 female zebras out of their cages and in bigger quarters. I have one lovely male but iam considering selling him, as i would really prefer not to have babies. Does anyone know if all female zebras living together would be okay? I would also really like to add a different species with them for colour. I was thinking of shaft tails, or cordon bleus. Again, i am aiming at no breeding as i dont want babies over crowding. Looking forward to some advice!

I am thinking Shaftails might be able to hold their own a little better against the boisterous Zebras. But every bird has an individual personality.

It should be fine as long as you don't plan on breeding. I have a pair of black breast zebras and a pair of red cheeked cordon bleus together and there is no problem.

I have a wide range of zebras, some are sweet but others are like hornets! Putting CBs with zebras is like putting a timid kitten in with hyperactive kids. The CB's are likely to hide or stay in one spot.

I agree with Liz, shaft tails and zebras...they are from the same country and should do fine together.

How big is the flight you will be building...Shaft tails are get flyers and love to do acrobatics around and under perches.

My suggestion is to aquire the birds and keep them in separate cages for a bit so the see and hear each other. Both species are territorial so when the time comes introduce all the birds at the same time to the new flight. Offer plenty of roosting spots, a few drinkers or water cups and maybe two feeding stations at first. See how it goes....I would do all the same sex.
