Well first came this...
Then I added this bit...
Trouble is the sun is down the other end most of the day...so...Yeah! why not...
Should be painted and up and running in a couple of days.I've built this on a base of heavy plastic pallets...the holes in these will be wired and the floor covered in gravel. This keeps vermin out but means I can hose the floor down occasionally, and it doesn't matter the birds bathing and making a mess.
I'll take more when it's all finished.

Oh I'm still knocking about...

Not a lot to post about at the mo...Very late spring here with near freezing temps at night,birds/plants all weeks behind.
Lots of nests and eggs. One with five gouldian chicks nearly fledged under societies. And a new one on me...two bichenos were taking a strange interest in them yesterday...I couldn't believe it when I saw them go in and feed the gouldians.

Love the quail ramp. Also , love the raised bed idea so that drainage is effortless. I really admire the beauty of your set up but even more.. I admire the practcality and ease of service you have included. You can tell this design comes from years of experience and keen observation of the birds you have kept.
I guess this is a compliment but don't go and get a big head

You are one of the people that I have come to know on this forum that I would love to sit and bird visit a while with... preferably sitting on that bemch with the view of the aviary

Cheers Candace...
The thing is over the years building all sorts of flights and cages, there is always something that you wish you had included.Ease of feeding without disturbing the birds unnecessarily.Designing aviary floors so they can be hosed and cleaned easily.
But there is always something I wished I had done differently after a few weeks. There are lots of things to be considered...protection in winter weather/preventing vermin access/ease of catching birds.
Access to an aviary can sometimes make you feel like a contortionist avoiding perches...so near the doors I make these below from small logs.I drill holes around them and hammer perches into place. An eye hook in the top and they can be suspended by wire from the roof.Easy to unhook and replace when you've finished in the flight.

Another clever idea I will borrow. I have a branch in one of my outdoor aviaries that really drives me nuts.. it is at the height that it snags my hair.. I will get around to trimming it one of these days... but the fact that you can easily just move them for cleaning.. good one.
I agree... always would change something.. but I don't always have to figure it out myself.. I can learn from those that share their secrets...thanks.
