Zebras in Croatia

Hi,
I already introduced myself, but let me just repeat shortly. My name is Danijel and I’m from Croatia (Europe) city Zagreb and now I want to show you my cage for zebra finches (male and female).
Cage is 23” long x 15.6” high x 13.4” wide. Inside I have grass nest, grape vine branches as perches, bird bath, couple of toys, food and water, nesting material (coconut fiber) and bunch of dry grass which they love to pluck and shred.
Inside is enough room to fly not just to hop on branches.
Climate in my town provides me to keep them outside 7-8 months per year. On the three sides of cage I put jute sheet as wind protection and the roof for protection of rain (roof still needs some natural cover for decoration).
They have 2 hours of sunlight in the morning and the rest of the day they are in the shade. Birds are enjoying, singing with rest of the forest birds and make happy my wife and me while we are enjoying our time in terrace.

What a beautiful setup! Your birds look terrific - I am partial to Black-Face - and also love a nice white. Welcome to the forum - look forward to more photos and discussions!

Thanks. But I got a problem. Today, while I was away, neighbour cat try to bust in the cage. Bird bath was knocked down, doors were open and detachebale part of cage was partial detached (I really dont know how cat managed to detach that lower part because it's needed serious force to do that). Birds were inside nad cat was suning bellow the cage and curling around my legs while I came home. I really like that cat and I thoght that cage is safe from cats on the fence

. I will try to spray whit cat repelent are bellow the cage.

Here is the final look of my zebra finch cage. They are 6-7 months per year outside so the cage is protected from wind, rain and direct sunlight. I like this reed cover because I don't like to see bars. I like to use natural materials in cage so the toys are made of wood, bars are branches from hazelnut tree and grapewine. Oposit of cage (behind my back) is a small forest with forest birds so the zebras are enyoing to sing with them. I would like to let them out for free flight but I don't have a guts to do it. I tried to let them out in the house but they don't won't to leave a cage (they were alone in the room for 2 hours with open cage doors and they didin't went out of cage).
I've put this nice bird house (which they use offten) on the outside side of cage to maximise the space inside the cage for flight.
P.S. Sorry for the lens flare on camera (it's so sunny this days with temp up to 96°F!!), I also don't know why to qualitty of video is poor, yesterday was fine. And also check the vid of my aquariums

).

I thought when I saw Grale post on your thread that you both might know each other. But I would think not reading your post here or you would know where Grale get's her finch stuff.
So can it be that you both do not know each other but just happen to live in the same city and joined up to the Finch Forum almost at the same time?

That's amazing - talk about a very small world!

What mutations of zebras do you have there? Are you able to get most of what we have here?

Mostly in Pet Centar in Heinzlova Street and they have almost everything that you need for birds. Selection of finches for sale are: zebras, societies, gouldians, shaftails, diamond, ringneck and Java sparrow. I was there yesterday andthe bird section is still under construction (they are building new and bigger) but you can buy all equipement and food.
Cindy people in this forum told me that male is Black Face (not Black Cheek as I wrote) and female is white. Breaders also have europen gold finches and other wild singing birds (I don't know they english names or latin) and cross bread spicies of mostly gold finches and canaries (a.k.a bastards).
We also have a lot of high class canaries and of course all sorts of parrots (which are the most popular here).
hamaica you can ask me if you need to find something in Zagreb for Birds and it's a small world indeed

.
L in Ontario I'm not so suprrised that we all find here because you are the best finch forum on Web. It's not sucking up it's a fact

.
