How many finches?

I currently have eight finches in my finch cage. Upon reading up on some other finch websites I saw that some sites said that my cage was way overcroweded with finches. I talked to some other people and e-mailed some owners of finch websites as well as some finch breeders, ect. I got a very mixed review of how many finches should be in my cage. Some people said I should only keep two finches and another person said I could keep as many as eight finches in the cage.
I just took measurements of the cage and it is:
Height: 2'8"
Width: 1'8"
Length: 2'10"
How many finchs do you think I should be able to keep in a cage this size?

I think that how many you can keep in the cage depends partially on what species you want in the cage and also the size of the finches. It is a complicated guess...but others here will guide you in your choice.

I agree, My cage is 30x18x36 and I keep 3 males in it. I had about 5-6 at one time before I sold the babies. It was plenty of room and you shoud be OK.

Hi,
according to the "how many will fit" calculator on finchinfo.com, it says your cage can fit 2-3 birds. Finches need more room to fly horizontal then they need vertical.
although from my experience it really depends on the species. I like to give my finches plenty of flying room, but if you can't afford that then you have to deal with what you have. I wouldn't put any nests in that size cage with 8 finches. I personally would keep max 6 finches in that size cage, and would only do it with probably society finches.

Thanks. Maybe after some of my current finches pass I'll only keep four. I'd like six, and I like Socieites as I've had them before, but I also like a little variety so I think I'll try to just keep four two pairs of varying species.
