So i found a ton of metal bed frames in my garage, in looking for a while to find wood and such for my aviary, i thought immediately(as the crazy bird chick i am, no pun intended

) Woah, could i use those for an aviary? i'm not using them! it would save me TONS and i can make a pretty big indoor aviary for my two finches!
I still plan on getting white child safe paint and i would still need a few small things for accesories and such.
What do you think?

I think it's a great idea, just be sure that it's all bird safe and I think it'll work out fine

Kaite, can you post a pic of the frames? Not only can people give feedback on safety, but it might help generate some construction ideas!

There are at least 2 people I know of down here who construct ALL their aviaries from metal bed frames picked up from the dump for a couple of dollars. I will try and get some pics if I can manage it. I will try and find out the consrtruction technique

So i went back to look at them further(and took pics but not good ones..)
parts of the bed frames have wheels, which is PERFECT as i am making an indoor and will need to clean under it.
The bases with the wheels are about 6 maybe 7 feet long and there ARE some shorter ones. i have about 2 or three bed frames so i can mix and match pieces from both to construct correctly.
So an estimate of the dimensions are
4 or 6, 4'peices
four 6/7' long pieces
various length pieces with wheels

This would be a lot cheaper, screen doors can go from 35-70$ and all i need to do for this is build a few arrangements(i.e doors and such) and get some good 1/4 inch 'mesh' wire for the outside.

What a great idea! I think it would be easier to clean than wood.
