Easier on Electric bill. They use them in aquariums now. and they make make them to intimate moon light now. What is your opinion of them for aviaries?

Here is an example of some

Those aquarium moonlight LED's may work for night lights. The daytime LED's they list are pretty expensive. The other lights used in poultry houses would need some research--keeping finches in a cage/aviary is a whole different matter than keeping chickens in a huge warehouse. I use plain old shop lights with sunshine fluorescent bulbs I get at Lowe's. I'm gradually switching over my T12's to T8's, which are supposed to run cooler and be more efficient. About the time I get everything switched over, they will come out with yet another product.

Ok what are t12 and t8 bulbs? I'm just asking because my aviary came with 4, 8ft long florescent bulbs. 2 are full spectrum bulbs ,2 are reg bulbs. Thinking of the birds and the electric bill, do I really need all that? It is pretty bright. They light up 3 rooms.
My aviary is 8ft long by 3ft deep and 6.5 ft tall.I know I need the full Spectrum bulbs.

I have an aviary about that same size, and it has two 4' long fluorescent fixtures end to end, with 2 bulbs in each fixture, and it is definitely bright enough. You could take out 2 of the bulbs and see if that is enough light--it should be. T12 and T8 bulbs are different sizes in diameter for fluorescent fixtures. They are not interchangeable, so I am having to buy new shop lights that are designed for T8 bulbs. T12 are something like 1 1/2" in diameter, and T8 1" (not exact, but gives you the idea).
