Clear Vinyl Sheeting

I just wanted to share with you that I bought some clear vinyl sheeting to put around 3 corners of my cage to prevent the poop from hitting the walls etc.

This stuff is really great as it is clear and hangs nicely and you can hardly see it at all! And with our cold Minnesota winters it will help keep the drafts at a minimum especially since we have forced air heating.

Here is some info on the vinyl I bought in case you are interested:

Clear Vinyl Sheeting--non yellowing and UV stable
8mil thick
36" wide / 25' long roll

There was some 4 mil thick but it seemed too thin and flimsy. The 8mil hangs so much better.

Hubby got it at our local Fleet Farm store but they also have it at Menards...and Home Depot or other places like that. 25 feet is a lot but Hubby likes this stuff too so it will get used up eventually.

We put some grommets along the top then then we zip-tied the sheets to the cage.

So all I have to do to clean is lift up the vinyl panels and wipe it down and the cage bars too if needed.

No use taking a picture as you would not see it anyway...LOL

I also put some underneath my lovebirds cage to protect the hardwood floor. Can you tell I really love this stuff!

Good idea, which I've used (to prevent drafts). You can also get this plastic sheeting from fabric stores, incidentally. If you get it heavy enough it drapes on the cage so you don't have to affect the clean look with fasteners. And, when you clean, make sure you don't use cleaner near the birdies.

Here is a pic of the Grommet/ZipTie application on the cage....I moved the Ivy decorations out of the way which does a great job of hiding all of the fastened pieces... $\:D/$

Very nice. I used a vinyl shower curtain and shower curtain hooks on the back of my cage to protect the wall. It works well and I'm happy with it, and I was able to get two out of the curtain so I have a spare.

I have wanted to try that for a few years. I thought about just putting plastic wrap or something on the wall but that's tacky. I'll be in Lowe's looking for some, along with the seed hopper!! I should be clean then for sure...

I like the idea. We used to have pet rats, and man oh man can they make a mess! Pee splattered and dripped every which way. So I used clear shower curtains to protect the walls and floor. But I found that it was hard to wipe and became stained quickly.

When we were down to one large cage, I started using coroplast, (corrugated plastic). http://www.coroplast.com/

I made a four sided box that the cage fit into. Back, sides, and bottom.

We no longer have rats, but I still have mice (actually one geriatric mouse left). I made a similar coroplast box for the mice cage to sit in. As you can see from the pic, it catches the shavings etc that they throw out of their cage.

Down the road, I plan to put my finch cage in this same spot. I figured I would build a box similar to this around it, over the lower half/third, the cage would probably fit snuggly in to it rather than have space.

I hope I didn't hi-jack your thread, I felt it was a similar idea.

I also use the vinyl sheeting, but being too lazy to install grommets just use the little black office clips to fasten them on.

Kiko...I am glad to hear other ideas like yours. We all have different set-ups and use different methods that work for us. I hope we get more ideas posted.

In this pic you can see the shower curtain. I throw it in the washer to clean it. I also like the idea that I can get different backgrounds if I really get motivated and get another couple of shower curtains.

I wonder if fabric would work well for them? Machine washable, and you can play with different colors and patterns. Hmmm, might dust off the sewing machine and try it one day.

I had considered shower curtains too as there are so many pretty colored tropical ones out there....but I went the clear vinyl route this time. But I may try shower curtains in the future when I get more cages...(Shhhh...don't tell my husband)...he thinks I am happy with the one cage! That's like saying I would be happy with just one pair of Finches.....NOT gonna happen!!

Featherharp- I'm with you! I'm already thinking about getting another cage like the one we've both got. They would look great side by side, wouldn't they??? Have you cleaned the vinyl sheeting yet? I wonder if it will scratch?

WONDERFUL Idea, thanks for sharing.

I use shower curtains BUT I do NOT hook to the cages, This way if I need to roll a cage out i have no worries, lol

I attach the shower curtains to the wall with tacks, No one even knows they are there and clean up easy toss in the wash.
Ya can buy the clear shower liners for 1.00 at the dollar store so dont even have to wash if ya dont want to .

I do like the vinyl idea though specially for those messy messy suns,

Fancie Flight...I just checked the receipt and the 25 foot roll was $17.99 where we bought it.

I have some underneath my Lovebirds cage too it helps protect the hardwood floor a little better.
