You can't do any maintenance in that part w/o the birds escaping.

You are right.. mm maybe there is a way to get all the birds inside and close a door to the inside so yu can freely work outside? and vise versa for nest checks

These are designed to be moved around frequently--as the chickens soil the grass/ground under the coop, the whole thing is moved to another area. Of course, finches wouldn't soil the area very fast. Also, you'd need to check what size the wire mesh is. By the time you buy this and then make all the modifications, I think you'd be better off building something from scratch.
