The first time my son and I went to sell birds, of course one got away. We watched him fly over a house... I was very sad for my son. He felt terrible.

Several times, when I'm at a show, I've seen birds escape. Everyone is always quite disappointed.

Some time ago, I decided I was going to make a cage sleeve. Today, I did, and I know this will work. It cost me 50 cents (Canadian)! I have two cage sleeves now! I wandered downtown, and into the USED store. I asked if she had any horrible shirts in the back room. Long sleeve, preferably large or extra large. "Stained is fine". She rooted around, and found one. I took it home and cut the sleeves off, an inch into the shoulder. I then clipped it to the cage with four clips (paper clips - clamp style). I use these clips to serve up greens. Stick your arm in at the cuff! I'm confident that I'll seldom ever lose a bird again! My son thinks it'll work great too!

Yes that will work - I've seen people use it at a birdshow (in Richmond Hill or in Brampton) but they had a whole shirt and clipped the arm area to the cage door... worked like a charm!

Tell me about the show in Richmond Hill. I go to the Brampton show each year.

I've also visited London, Windsor, Hamilton... Mt Forest

I have seen this done with nylon stockings, which really required a frame. The shirt sleeve a such a great idea and much simpler - thank you, Jeff!

I like the idea...it kind of reminds me of the medical research cubes and the technician reaches in through a port that has protective glove attached.

I've seen this done with the legs of pantyhose, the shirt sleeve would be much better, I would think. Thanks for the idea!

I also have stock from those (except Hoekstra) plus Flemming of Critter's Castle in Toronto and others.

Jeff, I have used a frame and cut a sweat shirt and stitched it around the frame leaving the arm in the center. It works the same as the nylon but better... the birds do not get their nails caught in the fabric These are real easy to make and ends birds getting out when catching at bird fairs !

Yeah, I've been thinking it would be great to have it so that it hooked onto the cage really simply. The frame makes sense. Perhaps an inch wide, and then staple the sleeve to the frame. Hooks on the frame to attach to the cage.
