Carpet Cleaning

While I plan on getting tile, I can't get it right away and really want to clean at least some of the carpet in my room. I'm concerned that the chemicals in the carpet shampoo will bother the birds though, so I've been holding off. Do you know if it's safe or not? Or if some types are safe while others aren't?
Maybe I'll find time to do mine tomorrow
