Well, I had this idea for a cheap flight idea.. what about those playpens for ferrets and rabbit?? I thinkg they might work if the bar spacing is small enough, what do you think?

Good idea but the bar spacing are waaay too big for finches. My daughter has one for her ferrets.

I've seen them converted into flights for finches. You just have to wrap it with hardware cloth.

That might just work Dayna! I have seen some for guinea pigs, all different colors and they had really small bar space but I cannot find them anywhere

now that the birds are in my bedroom they cannot have free flight, I do not want bird poop on any of my stuff! Plus my room is too large to try finding my birds in it, i have los tone before (i found her the next day)

Dante, you should check out craigslist tonight or tomorrow - there are a ton of entertainment centers that would make
beautiful cages, I saw at least 3 that would not need much work, all under $100, two were only $40 each!!

I am sooooo incredibly tempted... just put laminated pegboard over the back, vinyl laminate on the bottom, hardware cloth with a door or two in front - voila!
... I have no where to put one though...

If you're interested in building something, the cheapest way I've found it basically wood and plastic wire mesh, which I'm sure you've thought of. Tonight I just finished a 4 x 3 x 2 flight for all under $50. A tip though - some of the bottom area can be surrounded with thick plastic (kinda trash bag type of material)... this will not only help keep the seed of the ground, but will also minimize some of the wire mesh needed to build the cage. I have enough material left to build another smaller flight. I'm going to be filling with foliage tomorrow morning so the birds have the entire day to adjust.
I also just realized that the large doors I've put on the side almost perfectly line up with my other 5 foot flight. I could open both doors and connect the two for a 9 foot flight!

I have so much room in my bedroom, but I am not worried about it now. Thanks for the idea though, I will look. I will get my chicken, and focus on my budiges for now

Brian, can I ask what type and size of wood you use? I would love to try building my own, but I am clueless when it comes to materials...
Dante, chickens now?!? if you want something different, there is a guy in Wilson, ny selling peacocks and peahens. if I had a big yard... how awesome!

Dante, have you seen this ad on the Rochester Craigslist?
http://rochester.craigslist.org/pet/3177074340.html You could get a few - or even two of these - and hook them together to make a great aviary in your room. $30.00 is a really good price...

Wow, that is a super deal, and yes, you could fasten two of them together to make one nice-sized flight. I would jump at that one.
