New Flight for the Boys

Back from vacation and have finally been able to finish the flight for my male gouldians.

Image

I built the cage with wood from home depot. They had bundles of 8 foot wood which made it priced for less than $1 each. I can't remember if it was sold in 6s or 8s. The back/bottom half is lined with cheapish shower curtain type plastic which tucks under the base of the cage to help keep seed in. The bottom and bottom sides are lined with coroplast. The doors are made from simple wood frames, with hinges and latches attached as needed. The clear parts are pieces of thin plexiglass taken from a cheap poster frame.

I borrowed a set of tools but they didn't work! So the whole thing was done by hand with a saw and screw driver, just like the last one I built, when I told myself I would borrow someones tools next time. Haha!

I realized once everything was in place that the two flight cages have 16x20 inch doors that line up almost perfectly.
Once I don't have to keep my males & females separate, I may open them so they can enjoy almost 10 feet of flight space.

Looks great! And it just goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune to come up with a good home for your finches.

Appreciate the comments, all.

My next project is a photo bird box so I can properly photograph these guys [and girls] when the fully color up.

That's what I want, a photo box--you can get much better photos in a photo box than just trying to get them to sit still in the cage!

Wow!! Bravo!!!! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> I didn't know you had these kinds of skills!!! =D> =D>

You should have totally built one of those bad boys for your awesome (and funny) Peruvian Doves!!! They would have been pushing out babies for sure with all that wonderful space you could have created with your mad carpentry/building skills!!

That looks great, Brian! =D>

I have actually been thinking of trying my hand at something like this lately. Though I'd probably make a mess of it.

Job well done! :)

I would if I had more space! I've put ads up for the peruvian doves and no one really has taken interest in them. I guess it's hard to find dove-a-holics. I would love to breed them, but maybe it's not a good idea if there is no demand for them, as I certainly do not have space for more doves! Besides, they are have calmed down slightly now that they are housed with our cape and diamond doves. :D

& thanks again all for the compliments. However, if you could get a closer look at the cage and how crooked everything is, maybe some of you will take your comments back!
