My cages and the person I bought them from

Post by hilljack13 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 12:32 am

I like my cages and they were cheap. I got them off ebay. I thought I would do a little search to see if I could find the cages for sale still, good news!!

This link here EBAY CAGES FOR SALE!! will get you to the seller on ebay and a good description of the cages.

They are white or black and 30x18x36 and you get 2 cages for under $100

Responses on this cage would be nice. I have had them about a year now. I'll post my pic tomorrow when I can.

Those are very nice cages HJ. What kind of a stand or table to you have them on? And are they sturdy enough to stack on top of each other? Just wondering.

I got one very similar to this with the same exact size but it has one big door and 4 small ones at the bottom.

I removed the perches that came with it and placed different ones of different sizes on each end to encourage flying, also I have a few hanging feed troughs in different locations as well as water drinkers. I also removed the grates from the bottom and cleaning became a breeeeeeze!

Now it holds 5 birds comfortably and they seem to absolutely love it.

Featherharp, mine wasn't very sturdy especially after removing the grates, I had to tighten each corner with a strong thread to keep it from wobbling so I wouldn't place anything on top of it. But the one hilljack posted may not be the same.

I really like the size of those cages for a cage that doesn't take up a whole lot of house space. It is good to hear that they are decent for finches.

I could order them and have them sent to my sil in NY, and they could bring them up later.

I like the big HQ but they are soo big! I only intend to have a couple of finches anyway

I think it would be good to have two. If you could get the finches to go from one to the other once a month, then you could the clean cage set up and ready for them, and take your time cleaning the dirty cage.

Thats what I did when we had pet rats, two identical cages, and moved the ratties from one to the other.

Kiko....I like your way of thinking! Two cages would be ideal for alternate cleaning. It is much harder to remove finches when cage cleaning than it is for the bigger birds.

I would have liked to purchase the double wide HQ cage with the removable divider. But I just don't have the room right now. I do want to get a double eventually....it is on my wish list along with a million other things!

I guess you could stack them, They are heavier then they look. I bought a 72" folding table to put them on, the kind you use at picknicks. Works great.

How is $60 shipping expensive? unless you spend like $200 or more at other places to get free shipping, either way $85 for TWO cages that size is a great deal.

Well they come folded down so you have to assemble them. The box isn't the smallest in the world so I'm sure there is an oversized charge. I think the box weighed about 30lbs or so. Still seems reasonable when you only pay $42.50 per cage. Petco sells one about half that size for the same cost, someone posted in another thread.

I've been told that the way eBay works is that the seller pays a commission to eBay on what they sell, but not on the shipping. For that reason, you often see things that are priced way below market, but then the shipping is out of line. That way, the seller doesn't have to pay as large a commission, yet they still get their item sold for the total price they need to make. So, with eBay, you basically need to look at the total price and don't get hung up on what seem to be high shipping costs. $23.99 for 2 cages that size is ridiculously under market, $83.99 for those same two cages is a reasonable price. I've noticed cages going up in price (along with everything else). What looks like the same cage is $188.99 for a case of 3, including shipping at www.birdandcage.com.

Another thing to watch on eBay is the seller's rating--they should have done lots of business and have an extremely high satisfaction rating. After all, you are dealing with a total stranger, purchasing a product sight unseen, so you want to make sure you are dealing with someone who is legit.

Thats true Sally, I do a lot of ebay selling and buying. But if you pay with paypal they charge a fee for the entire cost, including shipping.

I didn't know that. So I wonder then why they would price something so ridiculously low, and then make up the difference with the shipping costs?

Well it works good in this case, no fee for $60 but you get hit on paypal side. But if they changed to a regular shipping cost of about $25...you have fees of about 3.5%, so 24 goes to 50, a $1.75 instead of .84cents. Also if the price is under $25 the fee % is lower than what I said. Just an example. The difference may not be much to one person but these guys do it day-in and day-out and the small change adds up to lost profit for them.

Did I confuse anyone yet?

Shoot I could almost ship a horse for 60.00 lol

I guess it seems high because my cages are 3 stacks with stands and I paid less thna 100.00 per set and no shipping. I must be spoiled, lol

And Sally I know your right on the RAISE the shipping part I have friends who sale none stop and thats exactly what they do,

Its depressing to pay 50.00 shipping and see they actually spent 5.38 lol

Im sure for the cages its probably maybe kinda sorta almost actual shipping though, lol
