Bottom of cage

So the cages I bought from WCTB are the 29 inch long collapsible ones, I like them other than the bottom wire part does not slide out which makes it hard to clean without removing the birds.

So would it be ok to sit paper on the top of the wire instead of in the tray underneath & if I do this should I put grit or sand or something else ontop of the paper?

Lots of people use newspaper to put on top of the grates that are not removable. It makes it more comfortable for the birds, too. You can use newspaper, butcher paper, brown wrapping paper, whatever suits you.

Wire bottom cages and young birds don't mix well. (I have zebra's) A while back I had a young one get its legs between the slats. I found him too late. I removed the wire bottom (easily done with that cage).

I would agree that putting paper over the wire bottom is a good idea. If you can get a piece of tin to put over the wires would be a good idea. Then put the paper on top of that.
