I know some of you have mentioned using LED lights for night lights. Today I went to City Hall to vote early, & they were giving away packages of multi-colored LED lights for Christmas. I took a pkg & wonder if the variety of light colors would matter if I put this on a timer & used it for a night light on top of the bird cages.

I use BLUE LED xmas lights draped over my cages.
Red would be OK also.
Mine turns on 15min before the white lamps turn off, and off 15 min after the white lights turn on.

This is exactly what I do too, only I use red LEDs.

I would think that a small string of white lights would be good because it the moon gives off white light. JMO, but multi-color may also work. You can try it.
