Aviary and our owls

Post by cindy » Fri Nov 09, 2012 9:37 pm

We decided that the aviary was alright for the zebras but they did not use all of it, and they bickered. So we decided that the owls should have the aviary. I moved the zebras out and they will go into same sex flight thet atre 5 ft long.

After a good scrub, and some decorating...in went the owls!! They love that extra space. All 25 are happy and flying about, checking out their new home. I may add the pair of lavendars but still not sure. Lavendars are swift flyers like the owls and may like the extra space.

I know my group of seven owls is always so busy busy busy! I can't imagine 25! I bet they use every inch of space in your aviary--I know mine do in their flight cage. I can't wait until my sunroom is done in the new house so I can build my aviary...sigh.

They use every bit of it, zooming around like crazy...darting about. No fighting. I finised setting up the bird room. Some individual cages for my older pairs, penguins, and other species. I have 3 ~ 5 ft long x 3 ft h flights in there also.

We have double Bar finches right were I live, its funny in Australia we call them Double bars & over seas owl finches, I love to see the double bars & red headed finches here at times but I don't see them as much as I use to, but up in the bush theres still flocks flying around.
Check out my Finches, l Just added 17 lots of pics of my Bengalese, Choclates, Cordon Blues, Cubans, Longtails, Mixed Finches, Orange Breast, Painteds, Red Parrot Finches, Plumheads, Ruddies, Saints, Stars, Zebs, Quarrians, Budgies, when looking at pics click on pic & it will enlarge. http://grahamsbackyardpics.blogspot.com

They were very scarce here for a while, it took some time to get two pairs. The breeder/vendor got them out of Canada. I then found another pair and two hens. I have the two groups togther and have not noticed one feather out of place in the Aviary....much different from the zebras.

I am considering little red brows or possibly parrot finches to add in with them but part of me does not want to upset the mix....I could always use 2 or 3 large flight cages for new species if I want to expand.
