Mini Aviary/Flight

Post by Shiikaa » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:13 pm

Mini Aviary/Flight, I'm not sure what to call it, other than MINE! Hubby has helped me up to this point. Now all that's left is to add the front panel, add some plastic, and finish the feeders and waterers. Oh, and doors. *blush* Yeah, doors would be good too.

Image

The size is basically 3 feet by 3 feet by 4 feet tall but with the front being beveled where I believe the measurements are 18" x 28" x 18".

Please excuse the floor's appearance. I'd just messed around with the garland and branches. Once in use it will be swept up then covered with wood chips...basically more messy but prettier to look at. *grins* Right now it's covered in carpet runner and branch bits.

The back has white board on it for ease of wiping off. We did caulk the seams to protect the wood underneath...is that going to be a problem?

The front supports are actually pieces of pvc pipe held in place by caps screwed into the top and bottom pieces and will be hidden by trim once everything is all said and done.

I've placed a full spectrum aquarium light connected to a timer on top and a plugin pale blue nightlight, which has a light sensor, on the side. There's also a black spiral railing decoration hanging in there which I plan on stuffing with nesting material or spray millet. I'm still deciding.

Looks great! We caulk all the joints in our aviaries too and haven't had a problem doing so.
best of luck

Love the natural look with all the branches and leaves! What kind of birds do you plan on putting in it?

Looks very nice. I completely sealed my aviary with clear silicone sealer. It's those nooks an crannies that problems can fester...

Thanks for the assurances, everyone!

As for birds, I'm looking to put in a couple of Societies for the moment. I want to leave enough room so that when I've saved my pennies, I'll be able to get a couple of Forbes...maybe. I like the looks of them (Actually they are Hubbies choice) but I'm going to have to do some more research to see if they are too demanding. If I'm not going to actively breed them are they fairly easy to keep?
