Very cute!!
What are the 2 orange ones sandwiched between the Cordons?

And I could only spot one CB in the picture!

Thank you Dante for your kind words. I am so happy to get the little ones out of their overly small environment.:-)

Jasmin, those were sold to me as Yellowbreasted Waxbills. I think in Europe they may be called zebra waxbills. I think (dont quote me on this) that they could actually be Orangebreasted Waxbills, as I have seen pictures of the YellowBreasts, and those pictures showed both male and female having the yellow breasts. They are truly wonderful. They love the company of other birds, but would not make it with agressive species, they are too gentle and passive. They get along perfectly with the Red Cheeked Cordon Bleus. I had read somewhere that they like to use the nests that others leave behind and that to get them into a nest it's an idea to stuff in a handful of grass to start them off. Well, I did that, and after some days, I watched them fish it all out of there and start afresh . You just never know what these little ones will do.

When the bleus flap thier wings during bathing, the yellow breasts will stand on the rim of the tub and catch the spray, just like they're taking a shower :-) One time, I saw Max jump right in the tub beside Condor. (Male bleu) . Just love these to pieces :-) So much enjoyment to watch.

There are also some stories that dont end quite so happy, like the 'Great Robbery' I witnessed several weeks back, with the aviary being only half completed at that time nothing I could do but watch. Anyways, a tale for another evening , this is getting long already :-)

All the best,

Ed

Jasmin, I missed your comment concerning 2 bleus, she is behind Condor, facing the front and looking over his tail feathers.

Thank you Donna for the kind compliments. A forum member earlier described them as delightful birds, and they truly are.

Ed :-)

Donna was right.

I checked my bill of sale and I was incorrect. They were sold to me as Goldbreasted Waxbills.
Sorry for the mislead.

hmmm you know, the male is not interested in her at all in that way, although they always perch together , preen each other and hang about together like a couple would. The hen does all the mating rituals, dancing around with a feather and singing and carrying on, to no avail. At first I thought I may have two males, but research tells me the females often mimic the male courting rituals so now, you really have me wondering. :o Could it be that they sold me a blue breasted hen as you say?

I'm going to post a picture of them under a new topic with the highest resolution upload that I can get away with, and perhaps all the people in the know, including you Michelle (please) :-) , can tell me if I have a RC Cordon Bleu hen or actually have a bluebreasted hen. ii yiii yii, lol

all the best,
Ed
