Another lighting question

Do you think it would be alright to place an aquarium strip light (equipped with full-spectrum lighting) directly on top of the bird cage? The closest perch is about 6 inches from the top of the cage. The link to my new cage is here:

Any thoughts? I was thinking of two 30" fixtures, on on each side of the cage (on top).

hi mariane
if you are going to putfull spectrum lighting above your cage,i would put it a bit higher up than that as there is still heat gien off from these strips and as you know all birds find the highest perches to roost on a night time so if they were left on there is a possiblity of a few singed feathers

I place my lights right on top of all my breeding cages and have been doing so for the past 5 years with no problems. The lights don't give off that much heat that it is a problem.

You can sometimes find recommendations on the side of the full spectrum strip light carton that explain how far to place the light from the animal(s). Regardless of where you place the light, I'd still recommend providing the birds with a "shaded" area to retreat to if they prefer to do so.
Thanks everyone!

I actually have an aquarium hood light right on top of my aviary/flight cage. It doesn't get hot enough to be a problem.

Most full spectrum lights usually have to be placed within 12-16 inches of the animal to be effective.
