Some time ago I bought a wooden breeding cage that I wanted to breed Gouldians in however, when I put my first pair in there I thought it really dark so I bought a huge flight cage and put them in there and never looked back.
The cage is just sitting in the garage so I was wondering if I could use it and thought I would ask you guys for inspiration. I'm not worried if the answer is to get rid of it because as least it gives me a solution.
The wooden cage is 43"w x 12"d x 16"h. the top back and sides are all wood with bars on the front. It is dividable in half with access doors on each side.
My questions are:
1) Is this cage suitable to house and breed one pair of finches?
2) If so, what would be a good species for this size cage?
3) How do I provide lighting for the birds? UV lights to me would be too bright in such a small area.
All help appreciated
