A friend of mine shared these plans of a small Aviary he built for his Finches and I just wanted to share them with you.
It is not ideally as wide as usually recommended but the plans could be adjusted for a wider enclosure.

That is pretty darn cool! He is one talented carpenter! It is very good looking, could be a show piece.
I wonder how easy it is to clean a home made aviary/cage? I imagine that you have to scrub down a cage once a month, so how would you clean this?

Kiko.....My friend claims it is easy to clean being he doesn't have very many finches in there.
He says what he does is move the finches into the smaller unit on the right that you see in the picture. He opens the side doors on each one and he herds the finches into the smaller one and then cleans the bigger aviary. I think the top grate comes off so you can get in from the top as well as the side doors. I am not sure that answers your question totally?
Also....he says that on the left is a fluorescent light and on the right is a compact low watt regular light for warmth. If they want a change of climate.

Very interesting--thanks for sharing! The plans could be adjusted for any size, so you could have a custom cage. I found that if I clicked on each photo, it enlarged enough to read the directions, and then I could print them.

That is one beautiful and unique cage. I love it. When we had birds, we kept them in regular wire cages..but this is gorgeous. I'm sure my dad wanted to build something like this for the birds but he never got around to it.
