Tidy Seed Feeders

Does anyone use Tidy Seed feeders? do they work well? are they worth the price?

I have 5 of them & love them. Mine hang outside the cage at one of the nestbox doors. I put canary seed in mine, as a little extra for them. And I wash them in the dishwasher

How did you train your birds to eat out of these? I have two, but can't get Bourkes to enter to eat.

yes debbie.....that is the link to the Tidy feeders....Amazon also carries them....good to know you all like them....they are sooooo expensive.....but glad to know you all think they are worth the cost!

anyone know a less expensive place to purchase them?

I've seen those at the Bird Shows but I was hesitant to buy one. Since they are pricey, I wasn't sure I wanted to take a gamble. I know Laraine sells them on her website.

I know others in this forum use bird hoppers or bird feeders, like this: Bird Feeder

I bought am inexpensive one at Big Lots for $2, to test it. I thought if my birds would eat from it, I'd buy a nice one to put in there. Well, my birds love it and love to sit together and eat. So, I will be buying nicer ones when I see them in the stores. I have it hanging in the middle of the cage, away from the side, and it has helped with the mess.

I bought an outdoor finch feeder like in Todd's post and put it in the aviary.. At the last minute I hung a giant plastic potted plant tray under it. When I went in the next day the darn European Goldfinches had removed about all the seed from the feeder to get at their favorite seeds (which were apparently a small proportion of the seed I was giving them).

I was thinking today that I was going to go to the plastic store and buy some acrylic and make some type of cover to prevent overhead pooping in the food dishes and to try and cut down on bathing in the drinking water. Might just buy some of those instead. Depends on if I'm feeling creative or not.

I also use feeders like Todd posted especially when we go away. You can hang them or sit them on a shelf or the ground.

I considered those, but they were expensive, so I've just started using the seed hoppers like this: http://glamgouldians.com/product-plasticfeeder.php

After the birds learned to eat from them, they like them and I love the lack of mess. The seed stays clean and the hulls are contained. I'm totally sold on them.

They are less costly, but you will probably pay higher shipping than at Drs. Foster and Smith or Amazon, at least at the places I have found them.

dcompt Donna; those are great too. I have a couple of them. You do have to watch that the seed is flowing down well; I had one yesterday that was kind of stuck.

That's a good point about the seed not dropping. I have several in my long flight, so if one isn't flowing well, there are other feeding stations for them. What I like most about them, I think, is the hull catching tray so that the hulls don't mix back in with the seed, making it look like there is plenty of seed when there really isn't. And -- hooray!! -- no more seed cleaning to salvage the good seed.

I bought the tidy seed feeder two days ago for my conure that occasionally dumps all her seed out while looking for a certain morsel. So far it's working perfectly. I like it.

As for the finches use the small clear hopper ( tan lid) with the little clear sliding drawer underneath for husk. They're brilliant. As others have mentioned, always have to keep an eye out for hoppers getting stopped up. I've been using two since Sept, and so far no problems.
