Outside mount bird bath

Do you use the type of bath that hangs outside the cage? How long did it take for your birds to use them?
I would prefer to use them but so far my birds won't go near them. It would be nice to contain the splashing.
Any suggestions?

Mayble, in all my smaller flights I use the outside mounted baths and in my large flight I use a home made inside bath. My birds find the outside mounts right away but I still have a few birds that don't bath like the others they just wet their heads..... I made these myself from large container purchased at Walmart and the smaller one is a container from a plastic jar of peanuts. The birds love these containers and the water stays in the container and not all over the floor. Actually any plastic jar will do. No more waiting in line to bath.

That's a great idea. I've been trying to figure out how to make something like that - I'll look for those type of containers.

All you need is an exacto knife and some heavy duty tape or plastic that goes around cage doors. Be sure to leave a good sized lip on the bottom so water won't run out.....

I only use outside baths, specifically to be able to contain the splashing.
Some birds never seem to want to bath.
Others in the same cage will splash up a storm.
Others will only stick their beak in the water and flap their wings.

The trick is to have a "teacher bird."
Just one to use the bath, and the others will gradually start bathing. Monkey see, money do. Although it may take quite a while for them to jump into the bath. Just be patient.

One thing that someone said is some of the baths have a clear bottom, and other have a solid color bottom. The solid color might be less scary to jump into than the clear bottom.

My Javas absolutely love to bathe - I just wish they would cooperate and use the bath I want them to. I use a plastic take-out container on the cage floor and they line up to take turns. But the outside bath was a total dud.

All my birds bathe in shallow saucers, most times all together. Not sure they would ever venture into a closed container individually unless there were a ton of room to spread their wings and splash.

I do use that type of bath and my finches figured out pretty quickly what they are for. Only my white java took a while until he figured it out and I just dropped him there myself once. Once he got the hang of it he loves it!
They are so excited about their bath that sometimes 3 zebras try to bathe at once this causing a bit of funny chaos.

I had a small canary tub bath, but that lasted only a short while.
The zebras splashed the water all over the place, I think it got out to about 5 feet from the cage.

To keep water from being splashed into the room and onto anything within range, I went with the enclosed bath. I don't want water splashed into the room, so they use the enclosed bath or they don't take a bath.

My wife's canary uses the same bath as the finches. While he does not have the room to spread his wings, he seems to like it. Well again, it is that or nothing.

I have tried both in cage and outside baths and I cannt get my Goulds to use them at all. I still proved in cage baths which are the typa use for reptile i.e. thy elook like rock pools but even though I've gone for the natural look my birds just dont seem interested.
