PLayed musical birds yesterday

Post by wilkifam » Sun Apr 07, 2013 9:16 am

Moved two pair of gouldians into the big wooden flight in my kitchen. In the winter it is too cold to keep birds in there, so they all go to the bird room where I have extra heat.
I added a light inside the cage, and they seem to be quite happy.

Freed up two cages which I cleaned and put away for now.

Moved a few more birds around, put my juvie gouldian cock in with my other cocks in a flight as he was in the hens and juvie flight cage and was starting to actively court his sisters.....

attached are pics of the pairs in the the kitchen flight...

Moved my society pair into a larger cage.

and lastly put a pair of goulds into a new larger breeding cage that I just got and set up yesterday.

Beautiful birds! And lucky to have all that room. I like your big flight.
A question about your flight - do you use the big doors for routine access? Or do you have smaller doors for changing water, papers, etc?
I would be paranoid about the birds escaping while I was cleaning.

Got the flight built like this from a canary breeder friend who had to quit keeping birds due to allergies. I have thought about changing one of the doors so that I have smaller access doors at the bottom.

There is a large drawer in the bottom I can use to change paper or add things down low, but when I change food dishes, I do use the large doors for access. I AM paranoid too. I lock up my small dogs when I am working with the cage, and have my net handy. Suprisingly, I have only had a bird escape about twice and promptly netted them and put them back.

Lori, I bet you were ready to collapse by the time it was all done! That's a lot of work. I played musical birds last Thursday and it's tiring.

Funny you should say that Lisa, I used to work in an office with 2 other girls, we had a Lori, a Lisa and a Linda. Everyone called us all Lisa - guess they had time sorting out all those L names.... So, I do answer to Lisa too.......

This is the tricky part, for me at least:

I am truly addicted - I have an empty cage right now that is just crying for a pair of waxbills.

Same thing here - I grew up with a Lori (she's my aunt but younger than me, long story) and we were like sisters. Everyone called me Lori. I also have a best friend named Lori that I used to work with, and again, everyone calls me Lori. I also answer to it! The guy I bought the gouldians from yesterday was telling me "Thanks very much, Linda!" as I walked out the door... LOL

I have two OC's you can have, but you have to drive to Montana to pick them up. I will however offer you a Tour of Yellowstone when you get here to pick them up...

Lori, if I can figure out how to sneak them onto the train, I'd pick them up on my way to California this summer.
How do you like the OC's? I'm considering them, as they're cute and readily available.

Closest train to here. About 8 hours away.....

Love the waxbills, they are sweet and get along with everyone.

Beautiful birds! I hope to have a breeding pair of Goulds soon. I have one yh/wb/gb male right now. But I need to figure what colored hen to go with him.. I would love to have babies someday.
