hi guys,

my cage door is about 25cmx25cm. this is kind of big. so i get a bit worried that when changing the seeds or water that a bird may fly out.

so what i wanted to know is if anybody had any ideas as to how i could feed them seeds/water without actually opening the cage door.

i attached a photo of it before i set it up etc. as it may help give some ideas.

You could put a towel over the door and reach your hand in to change water/food. This way they wont fly out

Are there any small openings to accommodate vacation feeders and water tubes that hang on the outside of the cage? If not...can you modify the cage or is it too late?

the mesh i used to build it was 6mm squares. however, i can make adjustments by snipping it

Do some leg work and decide which feeders/water tubes you want to use before you start snipping. You put so much time and effort into that beautiful cage...measure twice and cut once . I love the vacation feeders on www.ladygouldianfinch.com. They are easy to fill and keep clean. They also collect empty seed hulls as your birds eat. I use their 7oz. water tubes too. But there are tons to choose from. Good luck...cant wait to see the finished product.

I have beads hanging in the cage doors. Very successful to keep the birds from wanting to fly out.

I would have put that door towards the bottom. Birds are more likely to get out from an opening up higher rather than a door closer to the bottom of the cage.

If it were me, I would put another piece of wood along the right hand side of the cage. Use that as a ledge and snip out a hole for a seed hopper and water source.

How is is it fastened together? Could you swap the top and bottom of the cage so that the door is near the bottom?
