my mom has a yellow female canary which was in a small cage. 24inches long. we bought it at petsmart, it's one of those triple roof house. my mom noticed that her canary wasn't moving around in her cage. just sitting in her nest, almost seemed depressed not really chirping either, to make a long story short, I took daphane home with me, I have a bigger cage with some of my society finches and I thought the canary and the societies would get along. I was wrong, so I gave her back to my mom but in one of my old cages which is 30 inches long and straight across at the top ,no fancy stuff. I also put a swing in her cage. I called my mom to see how daphane is doing, she is now swinging , moving around in her cage and chirping, seems much more content. the reason for sharing this story with you guys , sometimes a plan old (few inches bigger) cage is sometimes better than a fancy one and I really wish petstores would carry cages that are practical for the bird and not just for the customer.

When it comes to cages, bigger is better and longer is best.

I have my three birds (one cranky old canary and two finches) each in a flight cage. These are definitely much better for them. The cages are heavy, and impractical to move, so I move them around on a trolley (each). Each also gets let out daily in the room.

Those roof peaks they put in the tops of bird cages are ridiculous! Flat tops are the best, but even a dome top would be better and more useful for a bird than those silly triangle spaces. (Lol, IMHO

Now that my mom has my old cage, I now have my green singers in her triple peak house and my male green singer is not happy. I guess I'm buying a new cage soon, very soon. -tammy
