Prevue F040 Flight Cage on sale at Amazon

Post by mayble » Tue May 28, 2013 1:20 pm

I know there are others here who like this flight cage, so I thought I would pass this along.
Amazon has them for $98.98 right now. I thought I got a very good deal at $135 a few months ago. I love the cage - great size and great features. And for that price, you really can't beat it.

Does anyone know if the bottom grate can be removed on this cage? By this, I mean permanently removed, not just able to slide it out to clean it. I remove the grates on all my cages, but some have to be modified then, as it leaves a gap between the bottom of the front panel and the tray. Also, this looks like it would be easy to remove two side panels and wire two of these cages together for a nice 20.5" x 62" flight.

The side panels are of two parts: top and bottom and the frames screw into the front and back panels as they support the top panel. It doesn't seem that easy to combine both cages as it will leave quite a gap between the 2 cage- the bottom panel is supported by the brace that connects to the caster and wheels.

I haven't tried it (my waxbills are in it)but I thought about it and it seems I will end up cutting the wires of the side panels so I can combine the two together. The wheels will appose each other and the front and back panels will honor have any support.

Would love to see what you guys think.

Well, rats, I was hoping the base/wheels would be on the front frame, but it looks like you would just about have to destroy the cages to put the two together. I was thinking they might be like the HQ single flights, where it is possible to put two of them together. Sorry, Sherry, if I led you astray.

Sally no problem it was a good idea... having two of these cages will lessen the amount of cages to clean instead of six small cages I will have only two plus the 2 flight cages I have.

I removed the grate from mine - if you put the tray where the grate was, it doesn't leave a gap. I cut a piece of cardboard to go under it so it doesn't leave the bottom wide open when I pull the tray out to dump it.
The side panels are the basic structure of the cage, so you can't really join two together that way, but I've been thinking about putting them together by joining them back to back - it would be squarish, rather than long, but quite spacious. And you'd still have the big doors on both ends.

For those of you who have these cages, do the feeder doors open? So you can attach outside feeders? Or do you have to put in feed through the front door?
