Anybody else buy the Prevue on sale at Amazon?

Post by mayble » Sun Jun 02, 2013 6:43 pm

This is my second of these cages, and it isn't quite up to the quality of the first one I bought.
I wonder if it isn't from a different source (knock-off, or just a cheaper supplier).
On this one the pan is different (a bit too small, actually), the large doors are lacking the middle support on the latches, and two of the spring-loaded doors were so loose I had to do another wrap on the spring to get it them to stay closed.
Still worth the price, in my opinion, but I'm curious if anyone else noticed any difference.

I bought my second one about 3 mths ago, and the pan doesn't fit in the tracks. Too small.
That was the only issue. Still, decent cage for the price.

i have 2 of these and they are great! very sturdy cages. if one tries to be obsessive compulsive then one can complain that the bars are not always straight. lol.

Prefex did you solve the problem of the short pan? I got mine today and it seems the pan is short on mine as well. Any suggestions?

Mayble my two cages showed up early =D> Got them both put together with no problem with the exception of dropping that allen wrench 100 times. I used a washable poster type board from Home Depot and got greens from Good Will and Michaels. I used velcro to hang the board on the back and found decals at Michaels. I will be using these cages for my canary hens and males. The hens are already in one cage and seem to be very pleased there is lots of room and plenty of places to roost.

Very nice! I really like the poster board on the back, with the backdrop.
I hear you on the allen wrench - I was about ready to put a string on mine after dropping it a dozen times!
I'm still loving my cage. I cut down a perch and fit it into the back of the tray (grate) slot to keep the too-small tray in place. With the grate removed, the birds get to spend time poking around in the litter for stray seeds and what-not, and I don't have a grate to clean. Win/win.
That's the only drawback I've found to the 30" Petco cages - the grates don't come out. The more I clean cages, the more I dislike grates.

I really like the idea of the posterboard in the back of your cages :!:

I haven't mentioned it to hubby yet, still trying to get the aviaries finished. As a temp measure I put the pan on the bottom shelf and put newspaper on both the tray and on the wire bottom of the cage. It's a bit messy and not ideal, but one thing at a time.
I use newspaper on the floor of the other cage too, because the wire is difficult on the finches feet and dangerous for the fledglings.

Glad you all like the backdrop I like it better then plain white and its washable just pull off clean and reattach simple!!
These two cages have eliminated 4 cages 4 cages less to clean....so now I have so many extra feed dishes, water containers, perches etc.

That's exactly why I broke down all my empty cages and put them into a big Rubbermaid Tote I bought for the purpose: Out of sight, out of mind!
Of course now instead of storing a bunch of cages I have to find a place to put this enormous tote. #-o
I'm sure it won't be for long, tho.
