Latest cage setup with plants and everyone getting along!

Post by Musetta » Tue Jun 04, 2013 4:41 pm

I have been working at improving the interior of my Prevue F030 flight cage with plants and a new thermal perch, so I thought I would post some pics. I owe the idea to fill the cage with foliage to provide privacy/hiding places for zebras to Nerien. This cage currently houses my zebras and my gouldians. Yes, I know, not the ideal combination, but the cage is rather large, and I would like for more than two birds to be able to inhabit it! I have decided that my Spices, unfortunately, are too contrary to be housed with anyone (well, the hen, at least--she's so mean!).

Anyway, the main problem with this current foursome is that Cayenne decided to turn on his former buddy Coconut and start chasing him around the cage. This abated somewhat after the initial introduction of my Ladies to the cage, with everyone tolerating each other, but I still felt like I could improve things. So I removed all nests (well, I did this almost immediately, as I was worried about potential zebra aggression) and installed plants. I must say, huge improvement! For the first time since Currant and Clover were introduced, I saw Cayenne preening Coconut again.

For the record, the zebras don't seem directly interested in the gouldians, at all; they pretty much ignore each other. But they will eat side by side, for the most part, and sit on the same perch.

The thermal perch I installed mainly because it tends to run a bit cool in my house (I get hot easily and keep our air conditioner pretty low).

Looks great! I would be really leery of housing Zebs with Goulds. Keep a good eye on them!

Looks nice!

I like pic #4 where all you can see is Cayenne's head sticking out from behind a leaf LOL
