Heya

I just got my 2 Bengalese male and female. I want to get another cage and put two Gouldian's in there sitting next to the first cage. Will this upset them in any way, with breeding or stressing them out?

I can't speak to these species specifically, but if it does see to cause problems, you could always clip a pillowcase or towel to the end of one, to create a visual divider.

It shouldn't bother them in the slightest.

told ya it wouldn't be long before you start adding cages and more finches lol! I had 2 cages side by side and if anything the birds seemed a lot more happier talking and checking out their neighbours. I bought a 3 tier rack for the cages though.

Yes, I am already wanting two Gouldian's. I did originally want those but they were far more expensive so I went for the Bengalese, I thought they were just as pretty so it was all good. But, now I want them so I am going to have to save up for a new cage and the birds.

My son came to visit last night, and he was so taken by them he is going out next pay check to buy some for himself, he sat with me for hours watching them, he was like a little kid he was so excited by them, they are so funny aren't they?

I wrote in another post how Clyde has been jumping on Bonnie a lot, so hopefully the little family is not too far off. I am being patient but watching his behaviour, I think some romance is happening.

What is a 3 tier rack?

This is a rack I found for flight cages at a local feed store. I live in the "country" or farmland so we have tons of feed stores sadly not to many bird stores though sorry I forgot to fix it so its not sideways. Not bad for 50 bucks. Could get the rack and cages for 175. If only I had room for another rack....

Guess who just bought 2 Gouldian's

I just couldn't help myself, and they were the only place around that had any which made the decision even easier. Male and Female...but the catch is....they didn't have the cage I wanted in stock so I have to wait until tomorrow or the day after to get that so they have my birds separated for me. It is going to be a long couple of days.

Is anyone going to believe me when I say I am definitely not going to get any more, these 4 are enough, no really they are....really!!!

@debbie276 are there any differences raising these guys instead of the Bengalese? also are they called 'Societies' as well?

It's off to the sewing room for me to sew up a new cage cover.

Gouldians and bengalese eat pretty much the same thing, finch seed, hard boiled egg and assorted greens.
Be sure to quarantine the new finch and I would advise against putting the goulds in with the bengalese. Bengalese can be carriers of a couple diseases that do not affect them at all but will kill gouldians.

Oh gosh I am scared now...they are going to be in a cage beside each other inside the house, I don't have anywhere to quarantine the new ones, I only have the two cages. Bengalese in one and the Gouldian's in the other. Bird man told me I would have no problems at all

It is always a good idea to quarantine any new birds so you have a chance to get them used to your feed and watch for illness before exposing them to your flock.

All in coming birds I treat with Scatt in case they have air sac mites and de-worm them all. I then just watch and make sure they eat and drink well and watch for signs of illness.

Im not the type to say I told you soo...... buuutttt I told ya so. Now as long as you are completely out of space for more cages or more birds in general I will believe that 4 is all you will have. I thought I would have one cage with 2 birds a month ago, now im trying to get rid of furniture so I can add more cages to the 3 I already have
