Gouldian housing- big or small?

Seeking some advise please...

I have the opportunity to purchase a 30x36 x48 cage for 2 pairs of gouldians. The cage is pretty pricey at $250 but it's an indoor outdoor custom cage. Should I purchase this case or just purchase 2 breeder cages which I can then stack on top of each other? I do not plan to keep my birds outdoors but space is limited indoors.would the gouldians prefer the bigger cage ( perhaps I can divide the big cage in 2 compartments) when they breed or the smaller cages - I would have to house them separately?

Thanks!

And if they are not in breeding, I can house them with another pair in a preview cage. I however think that may cause territorial issues. Thnaks again.

The big cage is fine if you don't plan to breed them.
If you do plan on breeding them, I would get 2 of the 30x18x18 breeder cages.
Remember that if you breed them, you will need another cage (or two) for the juveniles. The cage will get crowded fast if the juvs are in the cage with breeding parents.

I have gouldians that are in breeding cages and also gouldians that are in aviaries. They do seem to enjoy the larger space for exploring but I don't consider them highly flying oriented (compared to some species who live to fly) since they pretty much like to hang in the same area most of the time. I've never tried breeding gouldians in particular in an aviary setting but they do take very well to individual breeding cages. Not sure my answer helped you much (LOL!) but that's my two cents :) Essentially, the decision is up to you ....

The more space you can give them the better. You should have success in breeder cages that are 30 long for a pair. You should also have success in an aviary setting as long as they have enough space to get out of each others way. 30x36 is about the smallest I would go for 2 pair.
If I wasn't sure what I wanted to do I probably would price out the cost of getting single breeder cages and compare that to the cost of the big cage offered. If they are about the same I would go with the one they come with and try it, you can always change things later down the road.

Thanks for your input Gary, Lisa and Debbie.

The cage is from the suncatcher custom cages.I will look at the big cage today or tomorrow and see if it can be divided into compartments.

There isn't much privacy where my 2 cages are (by the family room) and adding smaller cages to that area may not be that visually pleasing. Perhaps I can keep the breeder cages in my office (secretly) and they may have more privacy then.

I've seen breeder cages at a bird show for as low as $35 so that is more economical but I won't get my hands on one or two until the next show in August. I will look for a bird store here in the Orlando area and see what's better.

Sigh...

I have my goulds in the main part of the house (solarium right off the kitchen) and they get along just fine happily singing and breeding. Once they get used to their environment you shouldn't have any problems because of where they are. :)
