So, I set up my 40 gallon reptile tank with sliding mesh, top for a zebra pair!!! I have soil substrate, but it is very dry. Floor dishes foe food and water, and they nest box is high up on top of a piece of wood. The perches are hanging from the top and I have a few silk plants but want to add more. These birds previously lived in a large flaws aviary so understand glass and they don't fly into it. Deffinatly larger than a 30x18 &I am thinking of adding live plants, tree limbs, sprouting seeds on the bottom and aadding two button quail.

Isn't it hard to get stuff in and out to clean without the finches escaping? Never seen an aquarium for finches. Please post some pics.

The way it slides I have easy access to the nestbox, food and water. The soil will absorb droppings to feed the plants

and sure thing

Dante, you really can think out of the box.
As you know soil, live plants and moisture can lead to mold and fungus. What is the draw to keeping your birds in the terrarium?

Dante, when I put new birds in the plexi aviaries, I cover the sides with sheets. Slowly through the day, peel them back a little. They will learn pretty fast!

Having raised crested geckos in large show 55 gallon tanks with orchid bark and areas with soil mixed in I can tell you that if not cleaned out you will get mold, fungus. Dry dirt in the bottom will get wet, food can spoil, I would find another substrate. Whatever you use it need to be cleaned out especially since it collects feces and urine from the birds. Perhaps cypress like you use for reptiles (packages at pet stores).
