Water for finch

Post by Javierperezjz » Wed Jul 03, 2013 9:01 pm

How good are the Vari FLO Drinking Valve, or is it better to design a system that uses a birth bath with a drain on bottom. I have and currently using The 2525 Baby Chick Fount Waterer for outdoor flight cage and bottle for small breeder cages. But I'm looking for a lower maintenance item, where bird get clean water all the time. I breed mostly finches. ANY IDEAS>>>>

I'd be interested in other ideas too. Right now I change out water 1-2 times per day. I'm afraid to use the Valve type waterers for fear of blockage or leaking.

I know a lot of people use the larger water feeders from ladygouldian, but I'm not sure for an outdoor aviary.

A friend just installed an automatic water system for all her cages. Each cage has a valve fed by tubing. She had to watch each cage to see that they learned to use the valve, then she removed the tube waterers. I don't really know which company she used, but here is one that I looked into some years back:

Not sure about the valve water dispensers, but I use two separate containers (each for seed, and for water) for each bird, which means replacing six containers each day! One is for bathing, and one for drinking, but they tend to use both!

I have seen some great systems that are modified bird baths with automatic flush and draining facilities. Usually used by big breeders for lower maintenance and guaranteed clean water supply for both drinking and bathing. It is important that birds get to bath too.

If I recall correctly the SAVE the Gouldian used such.

Thanks you all for your input. I Just want to save time but at same time not compromising the safety of the birds. I'll have to dig deeper on this issue. Changing 50 drinker or so its not fun.. My aviary has automatic water dishes like the image. They work great outdoor, but im looking for a solution for the indoor breeding cages.
