bird room here I come...

ok so I have this unused storage room in my house.. thinking about making it the bird room... the room is actually a closet that some previous owner widened 3 feet to make it into a small bedroom... when I bought this house they were using it as a 5 bedroom

The blue cages are F040's... I even showed the bumps for the external mounted nest boxes and bird baths

The red cage is the one I got with the Budgie's... it is 18"w x 18"d x 37"h

The power receptacle is located in an almost perfect location

Here are some actual pictures... note this room was not finished in the remodel because I didn't know what to do with it... I preprimed the walls and you can kinda see the hideous diamond pattern they had painted on the walls #-o

Here is the future owl cage...

And here are the budgies in their proper place... using it as a quarantine for 21 days and then I will move the Zebras in with them to their spot

I think it will do great, and the seed mess will be nicely contained in this room to be vacuumed up. Perfect. Also, if you needed expansion for later on you can always put shelves in and go up a layer.

Yeah the ceiling in that room is 9' on one side and 11' on the other...

Looks like a very nice area to put a few cages :)

Just add the full spectrum lights, cages and you're set to go!

That would make an awesome free-flight room! Just put a nice little tree in there, add a few accessories and put a screen door on it - voila!

I agree! Will, you could even make it an aviary, for free flight finches.. Fake trees, and plants on the wall! Put a screen door up... If you wish to keep certain birds caged, you could keep the cages inside the aviary itself.

Cover the floor with brown packing paper, or a dropcloth or something you can just roll up and either wash or throw out. There are worse things than bird poop on the floor (says the person who steps in cold, wet cat puke on the carpet about one morning a week).

When opportunity arises, consider giving your budgies a bigger cage--wider, that is. Budgies love to fly just like other birds.

It doesn't look like the floor is finished in those pictures. Maybe you could do a rolled vinyl floor to protect the floor, it could always be pulled up later if you decide on a change.
BUT I agree with you poop everywhere, not only the floor.

Great idea...I'm thinking of making the bedroom in the basement into a bird room at some point in the distant future.

You're lucky to have a room like that available to you. :) It will be awesome!

Might I suggest painting the walls before you move all the cages in? Primer and flat paint are hard to clean poop off of, but anything from eggshell finish to semi gloss is quite easy to wipe.

The whiter the color, the more light will get reflected, and make your birds look nicer and the room brighter. In my family room, we have yellow walls, which I have always liked. But now that I have birds, I wish it didn't reflect yellow on them in all my photos.

I can give you another tip from my bird room (which is in my basement, and is not finished.) I have a tiny gap between the cement block walls and the cement floor. I wish I had some kind of baseboard to block that, because the gap gets full of seeds and husks, and no matter how much I vacuum, I can't get it all out. :(

It looks like you have a gap, too, so I just wanted to give you a heads up. :)

To keep poop off the walls, you can hang cheap clear shower curtains from Walmart on the back of the cages. Otherwise, you will be amazed at how much poop will wind up on the walls.
