my society wants 2 zebras :P

ok so I know there is probably an answer to this question on this site but could not find it and could not get a straight answer from google.... so I have an indoor aviary its about 6ft by 6ft by 3ft or something like that pretty big... right now I have 4 society finches inside it and its looking kind of empty. Recently on a trip to Salem Mass with my boyfriend we were shopping inside wynotts wands and they had a small cage with 2 zebra finches. I thought they were pretty being a bird lover and that it was very cool they had 2 birds in the store but I'm a society finch type guy haha, But my boyfriend who could care less about birds (all though he enjoys watching mine fly around) totally fell in love with everything about them and zebra finches all together. So naturally when we got back from are trip he started looking around for a pair of zebra finches for me to take care of for him and him to enjoy lmao.... anyway we found a great local breeder who has dedicated his whole life to birds. honestly you should see the pictures he has on kijiji this guys house is so kool its like a private bird sanctuary or something, and he is willing to sell us a young pair of zebra finches. should i put them in with my society finches or should I keep them in a separate cage. I would really like to keep them together if thats possible. so i dont have an extra cage to clean but totally will if thats what i have to do. Is there anything special I should do to house them together. I know I should give them there own nest but other then that not sure if I should try putting them together at all or what. suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!!

this might be a stupid question if soo my bad cuz ive seen pictures of hybrids and stuff. I just want to be safe and also hear some other peoples experiences with doing this kind of thing.

I have housed zebs and societies together successfully. If you put nests in the aviary, you will wind up with lots of eggs. Breeding in an aviary has its challenges...so I limit my breeding to individual 30x18x18 cages. Good luck .

I kept mine together too and didn't have any real problems. Although after I took the society males out and the fledgling the lone female society was being harassed a bit by the female zebra when she started to lay again. But they were in a petco flight cage together. Currently I have 3 female zebras and 2 female society finches in a petco cage and they seem to be doing just fine. You shouldn't have any problems with your few birds in that big a cage I wouldn't think just monitor them for the first few days.

Awesome ! Thanks for the quick reply's guys !! exactly what I was wanting to hear. I will deff be picking up some zebs tomorrow for my boyfriend ! I am sure he will be very happy about them. Anymore info from anyone else just for the heck of it as I like to know as much as I can would still be awesome Thanks guys !!
